Hi, I’m Michael (Mike) Sheehan. I consider myself a nurturer. I have been supporting children and their families, as well as other professionals, for over forty years. I have worked in a variety of roles with a diverse range of families and caregivers. In addition to my professional endeavors I have and continue to advocate around what I believe is society’s inherent responsibility to nurture all children, especially our youngest and most vulnerable. I would also mention my wife and I raised three children of our own. We now also enjoy being a part of nurturing our two grandchildren.
Throughout my career I have worked in a variety of settings which has included licensed child-care, Head Start, Early Head Start, as well as Early Intervention (Birth to three) programing. I was an Infant caregiver for 12 years, and a toddler teacher for 14. In Early Head start, and other programs, I came to understand and appreciate a comprehensive approach to serving children and their families. In this regard I also learned to appreciate, especially through my experiences of working with children birth to five, that a foundational key to children’s ongoing positive growth and development is grounded in strong social-emotional health as experienced through attuned attachment relationships.
I made a conscious decision to pursue my master’s in clinical Mental health with the goal of becoming an Infant and early childhood mental Health Specialist. To that end after receiving my graduate degree, I then completed a 15-month long intensive program (Advanced Clinical Training or ACT). ACT complimented what I already knew through practical experience about the significance of attachment and early relationships, with cutting edge science and research.
Being a lifelong learner, I continue to educate myself on approaches and considerations (e.g. neurodiversity, the effects stress and trauma) that will equip me to best support you in your capacity to confidently promote your child’s positive development through a strong and mutually enjoyable relationship. I sincerely look forward to supporting you!
